Trees

Monday, June 29th, 2009

For years we’ve had tree’s on our gaming table, but up until recently, they haven’t been this useful. Generally, a forest in a miniatures game is a base with tree’s attached and unmovable.  A wise friend suggested that perhaps we could attach our existing tree’s to some washers.  Sounds simple, it is simple.

I bought 40 washers for around $2, brought them home and primed them white.

After that we used hot glue to attach each tree to a washer. Once the glue has dried we flocked each of the tree bases and that was that!

The washers provide enough weight to make it rather hard to knock a tree over by bumping into it. These will now be used in combination with Forest Bases (Article coming soon). The base represents a forest and defines it’s edge in terms of the games and the tree’s are there to show that there is Height involved with the forest. The tree’s can now be moved over so that your unit can safely reside inside of the forest without be tipped over or crammed into a set of static tree’s. I can’t emphasize enough how simple this was to do and how worth it is in practice while playing your wargame.

Sci-Fi Terrain

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

One of the key portions to building terrain, for me anyways, is thrift stores and bits and pieces from an inexpensive kit called the “Platformer Contstruction Set“  The results are as follows;

Each one happens to be attached to a cardboard base, generally I try to find reasons not to use cardboard due to it’s warping problems, but these are small enough that it shouldn’t be an issue.

The pieces are a combonation of PVC pipes that were obtained for $2 at a local Thrift Store.  The rest of the bits come from the aforementioned model kit.  The results are a Sci-Fi looking above ground structures that will provide various hiding places for your gang in Necromunda or whatever other Sci-Fi game you come across.

The next stage was pretty straight forward.  I primed everything black and began painting. I used the following colors: boltgun metal, bronze, brass, and mythril silver.  All drybrushing on all of those pieces.  Here are the results;

In the end we now have some ground-level terrain that isn’t a “Ruin” or something that’s broken.  These structures were built in tact and act as a great addition to our existing Sci-Fi terrain.

Site Overhaul

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

This site has been dormant for over a year.  Starting this weekend it’s getting an overhaul and will become the location for all of the terrain endevor’s that take place throughout the year.
