WIP: Kings of War – Siege

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

So, Kings of War v2 is coming out shortly, there should be a few copies on their way over soon. With all of the past posts about siege towers, manlets, battering rams, and so on, we’ve been itching to give it a go.  Now, currently, there isn’t any official siege rules, just some forum based ideas tossed around so far over on Warseer.  We decided it was time to get a game in and try out some of the stuff we’ve been working on.  The rules we used / made up seemed to follow alright with how Kings of War flows, it’s not perfect, and it will need lots of work, but the idea of a siege game that plays super quick is great. In our test game, the attackers steam rolled the defenders, weren’t able to break a single wall / gate / tower, and the attackers shooting up at the defenders was far superior than the shooting from the defenders towards the attackers.  Fortunately, we think these are easily fixed and are currently working on some bug fixes and ideas to make this siege work tons better.

The changes we have are all needing to be tested and we will I will likely put a document together for everyone to see what we’ve come up with.  But given that there is a whole new ruleset coming out next week, with some minor tweaks to the Nerve rules, I’m going to hold off for now, as the things we thought up will likely need to adjust to the new ruleset, especially if the discussions about how warmachines have dramatically changed.

Until then, here’s a couple of shots from our test game, It was a 3000 point attackers versus 1500 point defenders.  Humans and Abyssal Dwarves versus Elves, That may not sound right, but this was a test game, we’ll call it close enough.  The Siege tower was destroyed almost immediately by bolt throwers….don’t ask.  and using dwarfs to push a battering ram 24 inches is probably the worst idea ever.  All in all, it was a good first run through.

Kings of War Battle Report – Abyssal Dwarves versus Undead

Friday, July 1st, 2011

OK, it’s not really a whole battle report, because I didn’t shoot enough stuff to do that, but it’s close! This is an experiment with both using video and photo’s to create some more interesting posts. I don’t think they will all be this way, but when I have the time, I enjoy making these short little videos, so why not? Let me know what you think!

Kings of War Project – Abyssal Dwarf’s (Part 2)

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

I had some time to catch up and finish building all of the Abyssal Dwarf / Chaos Dwarf army that I’ve gotten up to this point, it’s turning out well. I still have some move trays / magnets to make, but the majority of this is prepped to be primed and hopefully painted.

Current Progress

On another note, there is some interesting stuff coming from GW / Forgeworld.  They have, with their Warhammer Forge line of products, begun to create a new Chaos Dwarf Army.  Forgeworld has historically been expensive, and these do not disappoint in that regard.  What’s striking to me is that the Chaos Dwarf Infernal Guard seem to really resemble some figures that belonged to a game called Chronopia, the vulture crossbowmen to be specific.

I think it’s mostly the creased helmets, but that’s what instantly came to mind. In any event, I like the idea of a massive warmachine for my Chaos Dwarves, and this beast might end up in my army at some point…we’ll see.  I’m not sure how GW / Forgeworld expect to sell an army’s worth of Chaos Dwarves at the price they are asking (10 figs for 36 Pounds or $58USD at the time of writing this).  I’m not sure how you’d go about making an army happen without some giant bag of money.  I just wanted to bring this up in a post about building an army at the complete opposite side of the spectrum, Mantic certainly isn’t resin models, and they have a very different look of course, but at the same time, the cost of the Mantic figures really shine as a whole package in comparison, to me.
